We made it to China!

We arrived in China today around 3:30 p.m., and was lucky to find my suitcase in baggage claim (I have bad luck with this).
We took a taxi to our AirBnB where we will be staying while in Beijing. The ride from the airport was something of an eye opener for me.

Just looking at a map of the country doesn’t do its size justice. And you can’t really fathom the amount of people there are until you’re smack dab in the middle.

I was trying to find an accurate way to describe it, but the best I can come up with is this: New York’s Times Square but on steroids.

Another thing that surprised me was the air quality. Jonathan and I had been checking the weather and air condition daily prior to our trip as his mother often has chest pain.

Upon stepping outside from the airport you can see how bad the air quality is. You can feel the grittiness of it settling on your skin and taste it in your mouth.

While in the taxi, I often had trouble distinguishing certain buildings through the smog. If it weren’t for a few stray lights, I wouldn’t have noticed them at all.

Fried rice and grilled beef!

After our long journey here, we were more than happy to sit down and have a nice warm meal.

We are just getting started in Beijing, and I can’t wait for everything we still have to do!
